Dear Sirs,
Opening of your new House on the Syrian Coast. We beg to confirm our advices of yesterday's date in this connection and in continuation thereof we have to advise that we have today sounded Messrs Furness. Withy & Co. in connection with the agency of any steamers of the prince Line which may be calling at the port in question. Their Mr. Dodsworth was very frank & friendly with us about the information which we gave him, which he thought would be of considerable interest to the managers of the Prince Line by whom such matters were still handled at Newcastle and upon our telling him that you had your own House in Newcastle he suggested that your Mr. W. Torry (whose name he knew) should see their Mr. Stockdale upon the subject, a suggestion which we think you might do well to act upon as the gentlemen in question are doubtless well acquainted with each other both having been on the Quayside for many years now.
We omitted to mention in ours of yesterday that captain Westcott told us that amongst others the Austrian Lloyd had a regular Line of steamers running on the Syrian Coast but of course the steamers of that flag will be 'hors de combat' in the meantime for sometime to come.
We are, Dear Sirs,
Yours truly,

James Burness & Sons
