Dear Sirs,
Lighters from USA. You referred this afternoon to your special letter of the 20th August when you asked us definitely whether we thought Messrs Willard, Sutherland & Co. would represent you in taking over all the material of the lighters which you propose to purchase and seeing that it is according to contract & in good order, also attending to the shipment of the goods at New York on your behalf as Owners of the craft.
When next we speak to you we shall tell you that we think Messrs Willard, Sutherland & Co. are quite competent to undertake this on your behalf. It is true that it is not work which they can perform personally but if, for instance, the matter had to be dealt with in London neither could we but we should have to employ an expert in shipbuilding with whose assistance we think we should bo able to see that your interests were properly safe-guarded. We think therefore if you ask Messrs Willard to undertake the matter on your behalf and authorise them to employ the necessary export assistance that they will do so and act for you to the best of their ability.
We are, dear Sirs, Yours truly,
James Burness & Sons
