Night navigation of the Suez Canal

Dear Sirs,
Herewith we have the pleasure to put before you a statement of the number of steamers which have transited the Canal by night with the aid of the electric light during 1888.
Number of steamers which have transited the Canal with the electric light.
MM. Worms Josse & Co.'s apparatus has been largely used, and has given general satisfaction throughout the year. From the foregoing figures it will be seen that out of a total of 1 610 steamers which used the Electric Light during 1888, 690 or about 43 per cent. of the number have been supplied with MM. Worms Josse & C°'s light, whilst if boats carrying their own apparatus are left out of the calculation, their proportion is about 55 per cent. for the year.
Steamers consigned by MM. Worms Josse & C°, and requiring their apparatus, should telegraph them the word 'electric', giving also their due at Port Said or Suez; telegraphic address 'Worms, Port Said', or 'Worms Suez'.
We shall be happy to furnish copies of the 'Directions for the use of captains', should you require them.
We are, dear Sirs,
Yours truly,

James Burness & Sons

Agent for Worms, Josse & Co Port Said & Suez.
