Dear Sirs,
Possibly you may be aware that our income tax Authorities are prepared to consider special appeals from those who can prove that their income last year has been reduced below the previous three years average, such reduction having been caused entirely by the War.
In our own particular case we think it might be possible to make a saving on the amount of Tax to be paid this year of about £ 20.
The writer has already interviewed the local Surveyor of Taxes about this but it appears that such an appeal can only be heard before the Special commissioners. We would have to provide fairly extensive statements of our working expenses etc. for the years 1911, 1912, 1913 and 1914 and also be prepared to prove that the reduction in last years profits was caused entirely by the war. We may say that the Surveyor although willing to give us every assistance was not very favourably impressed with our proposal. Personally we think that our future averages will adjust matters and that the smallness of the present possible gain is hardly worth the amount of trouble to be incurred. Before going any further with the matter we should be glad to have your opinion about it.
We are, Dear sirs,
Yours truly,
